Ingredients
    For the pita bread
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 cup wholemeal flour
  • 1 dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • For the garlic sauce
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 cup of sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1.5 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp fresh or dry parsley (grated)
  • 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • For the tomato sauce
  • 5 tbsp tomato puree or chopped tomatoes
  • 1/3 onion
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • Meat
  • 300 g doner meat (chicken or beef)
Instructions
  1. Mix the water, dry yeast and honey and leave for 5 minutes in a bowl.
  2. Add the flour, oil and salt and mix the mixture with a wooden spoon. Leave for another 5 minutes, then knead a ball of dough. Add a little more flour if needed.
  3. Put the ball of dough in a greased bowl and let it stand for 1 hour (it should double in size).
  4. After 1 hour, make 4 smaller balls from the dough ball. Roll each ball with your hands or roller into a pie about 1 cm high.
  5. Take a large baking sheet (just a little greased), preheat the oven to 230 degrees with the baking sheet inside, then place two pies to bake on the hot baking sheet. Do not open the oven for 4 minutes, and after 7 minutes you can take them out. In this way, the dough turns into glues that get a dent inside like a pocket that can be cut to fill. Leave them to cool, and do the same with the other two pies.
  6. Make the sauces only by combining the listed ingredients in a blender.
  7. I buy already prepared doner meat (it is available in some markets), and you can make it yourself by roasting a large piece of meat at a high temperature, and then chopping thin slices of it. Instead of meat, you can put mushrooms on a grill pan for a vegetarian option.
  8. Cut the bread in half and add white sauce, then a piece of lettuce. Sprinkle with white sauce on the lettuce again, arrange slices of tomato, meat (mushrooms), then add red sauce. Add fresh onion circles if desired. Cheers!
